The 'Promote' function is a great way to move users from one group to another. You can do this by selecting specific users, or you can move all users within that group. One really common way to use promotion is to move kids from one grade to the next during the summer.
PLEASE NOTE: When using the Promote or Mass Update tool to move grade levels, begin at the last or oldest grade that you will be promoting profiles to and then work backwards to the previous grade.
For example, if your last grade is “12th Grade” start by promoting the individuals that are in the “12th Grade” group into the next grade level. Then move down to promote individuals from “11th Grade” to “12th Grade”, “10th Grade” to 11th Grade” and so on until you reach the lowest grade that you want to promote.
Why do we have to do it this way? Well, if you moved everyone out of first grade into second grade, then moved everyone from second grade into third, all of your children will end up in the 12th grade group. You don't want that to happen!
- Go to ADMINISTRATION > DIRECTORY
- Click on the PROMOTE icon on the left hand side of the screen ( ).
PRO TIP: If you cannot find what you're looking for in the left navigation menu, click on the words "Directory/Group Membership" (not the arrow) at the top of the screen. This will expand the left menu so you can see your options! This can be done in most menus in Seraphim.
- Next, in the “FROM” box, begin typing the name of the group that you'd like to promote. For example, let's say we already promoted our 12th grade kids into the "College" group, and we want to now move all "11th Grade" students to the "12th grade" group. Here we would enter " In the “TO” dropdown box you can select the group you want the promotion to apply to.
- Promote will take everyone from the first group and force them into the second group unless the second group is dynamic
